+---------------------------------------------------+ | sober - Licensing & legal notice - Read carefully | +---------------------------------------------------+ * EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH PROJECT - USE SOBER AT YOUR OWN RISK * Privacy Notice: https://sober.vinegarhq.org/privacy.txt * Last updated: November 28, 2025 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ = SOBER LICENSE AGREEMENT & DISCLAIMERS = ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1. Definitions & Background The Sober project is a free unofficial application runtime made to run Roblox on Linux. It is an unofficial community project and it does not generate any revenue for its authors whatsoever. Sober is completely unaffiliated with Roblox or its partners. Sober is not affiliated with Google, Android, or the Android Open Source Project. Sober is not endorsed by any of the projects, persons, or companies listed below. The Sober project does not support any misuse of Roblox systems or platforms, in fact we have measures in place to prevent such usage of our software. Sober is experimental software that comes with NO WARRANTY WHATSOEVER. Use at your own risk. Given Sober's experimental nature, and given Roblox does *NO* testing or quality assurance for Sober clients, there is a chance that moderation actions may be taken on your account as a result of using Sober. We're not responsible for Roblox's actions, and Roblox isn't responsible for our actions either. By using Sober, you acknowledge that your usage of Sober may be interpreted as a third party client; we are not liable or responsible for any damages, account limitations, terminations, suspensions, or losses. You agree to hold Sober harmless in the event that Roblox deems your usage of Sober to be violative. If Roblox, Google, or Android send a verifiable, direct communication requesting Sober to cease operations, we will do just that. Sober is a software interoperability layer, and a project intended purely for research. We take no responsibility for the actions of our users, since we only provide a simple software layer that links Roblox to native Linux libraries. We also don't redistribute any of Roblox's intellectual property or code. Instead, users download the Roblox Application Bundle (APK files) themselves. Users are given an option to connect to Google Play in-app to download the bundle automatically, but it's strictly the user's choice & responsibility, and the download is performed like on any legitimate device, much like a standard browser would allow you to access content. Sober is not responsible for, nor does it grant any license to third-party software, content (like Roblox) or in-experience content (content inside of the Roblox app). 2. Accepting this License Agreement * In order to use Sober, you must first agree to the License Agreement. You may not use Sober if you do not accept the License Agreement. * You represent that you are at least 18 years of age (or the age of legal majority in your jurisdiction). If you are under this age, you represent that you have obtained verifiable consent from your parent or legal guardian to use Sober and to agree to this License Agreement. If you are a parent or legal guardian agreeing to this License Agreement for the benefit of a minor, you are fully responsible for their use of Sober, including all financial charges and legal liability that they may incur. * You may not use Sober and may not accept the License Agreement if you are a person barred from receiving Sober under the laws of the United States, Romania, or other countries, including the country in which you are resident or from which you use Sober. * If you are agreeing to be bound by the License Agreement on behalf of your employer or other entity, you represent and warrant that you have full legal authority to bind your employer or such entity to the License Agreement. 3. Sober License * Subject to the terms of the License Agreement, you are granted a limited, worldwide, royalty-free, non-assignable, non-exclusive, and non-sublicensable license to use Sober solely for executing the third-party application Roblox on your personal machine. * You agree that Sober's developers reserve all rights not explicitly granted to you. * You may not use Sober for any purpose not expressly permitted by the License Agreement. * Use, reproduction and distribution of components of Sober licensed under an open source software license are governed solely by the terms of that open source software license and not the License Agreement. * Use, reproduction and distribution of third-party components loaded under Sober's runtime are governed solely by the terms of that respective license and not the License Agreement. * Likewise, we obtain no right, title or interest from you or your licensors in or to any content that you may create or access inside of Sober's runtime, like Experiences on Roblox. * You agree that Sober is not responsible for, nor does it grant any license to third-party software or content. For example, we claim no ownership or liability for content displayed by Roblox. It is solely your responsibility to govern your use of Roblox inside of Sober's runtime accordingly. * You agree that Sober may change without prior notice; Sober may stop being provided at any time without prior notice to you; the software is provided as-is and you are not entitled to support from Sober or its developers. * You agree that you will not remove, obscure, or alter any proprietary rights notices (including copyright and trademark notices) that may be affixed to or contained within Sober. * You agree that you will not, and will not encourage any third-party to do any of the following: - distribute, modify, adapt, disassemble, de-compile or otherwise reverse-engineer Sober or any part of Sober or its underlying algorithms, or use Sober to aid in such activity for a third-party program or service, except to the extent that such activity is expressly permitted by applicable law or by the licensing terms of a specific open-source component included with the software; - provide, sell, license, sublicense, lease, lend, or disclose any part of Sober to any third-party; - create derivative works from or based on Sober; - automate interactions with the Sober program and any third-party programs running inside of it or scrape data using Sober; - repackage Sober; - create or run tools, programs, scripts, or applications which read or modify the memory of a running Sober process on the machine for the purpose of cheating, modification of intended behavior, automation, botting, or circumvention of measures put in place by Sober or Roblox; - use Sober to engage in an activity that violates any applicable law or regulation; - use Sober to engage in an activity that violates Roblox's Child Safety standards; - damage, interfere with, or interrupt normal operation of any third-party service that your device may contact during the usage of Sober (like Google, Roblox, or third-party experiences); - modify, interfere with, or interrupt the operation of Sober or any contacted third-party services; - install or use Sober on a remote server, virtual private server, or cloud platform for the purpose of offering Sober as a service, performing automated gameplay, or bypassing measures put in place by Sober or Roblox; * You agree that you are solely responsible for (and that Sober and its developers have no responsibility to you or to any third party for) any data, content, or resources that you create, transmit or display through Sober and/or third-party applications or experiences in Sober, and for the consequences of your actions (including any loss or damage which Sober or its developers may suffer) by doing so. * You agree that you are solely responsible for (and that Sober or its developers have no responsibility to you or to any third party for) any breach of your obligations under the License Agreement, any applicable third party contract or Terms of Service, or any applicable law or regulation, and for the consequences (including any loss or damage which Sober or its developers or any third party may suffer) of any such breach. * You agree that Sober is not an official Roblox product. You agree to Roblox's Privacy Policy, Terms of Use, and Community standards. Likewise, Sober is not affiliated with Google, Android, or any other third-party service contacted by your device during Sober usage. 4. Terminating this License Agreement * The License Agreement will continue to apply until either you or Sober's developers choose to terminate it. * To terminate the License Agreement, cease your usage of Sober. * Sober's developers may terminate the License Agreement at any time. * When the License Agreement ends, you agree to destroy all copies of Sober from all hard disks and memory, your rights granted under this agreement will cease, neither party will be liable for damages that arise from the termination of this Agreement. 5. DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTIES YOU EXPRESSLY UNDERSTAND AND AGREE THAT YOUR USE OF SOBER IS AT YOUR SOLE RISK AND THAT SOBER IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND FROM SOBER'S DEVELOPERS. YOUR USE OF SOBER AND ANY MATERIAL DOWNLOADED OR OTHERWISE OBTAINED THROUGH THE USE OF SOBER IS AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION AND RISK AND YOU ARE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY ERRORS, DEFECTS, DESTRUCTION, DAMAGE OR LOSS RESULTING FROM SUCH USE, INCLUDING DAMAGE TO YOUR COMPUTER SYSTEM OR OTHER DEVICE, LOSS OF DATA, VOIDING OF THE MANUFACTURER WARRANTY OR INCREASED VULNERABILITY OF YOUR DEVICE OR COMPUTER SYSTEM. SOBER'S DEVELOPERS FURTHER EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES AND CONDITIONS OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES AND CONDITIONS OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. SOBER DOES NOT CONTROL, MONITOR, OR HAVE ANY KNOWLEDGE OF THE CONTENT, COMMUNICATIONS, OR INTERACTIONS (INCLUDING TEXT CHAT, VOICE CHAT, AND USER GENERATED CONTENT) THAT OCCUR WITHIN THE ROBLOX APPLICATION. WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CONDUCT OF ANY USER ON ROBLOX, WHETHER ONLINE OR OFFLINE. WE EXPRESSLY DISCLAIM ANY LIABILITY FOR ANY OFFENSIVE, INAPPROPRIATE, OBSCENE, UNLAWFUL, OR OTHERWISE OBJECTIONABLE CONTENT OR INTERACTIONS YOU MAY ENCOUNTER WHILE USING ROBLOX THROUGH SOBER. WE MAY, AT OUR SOLE DISCRETION, EMPLOY MEASURES TO DETECT AND BAN CHEATERS OR ABUSIVE USERS. HOWEVER, WE HAVE NO OBLIGATION TO MONITOR USER CONDUCT AND WE ASSUME NO LIABILITY FOR FAILING TO BAN ANY SPECIFIC USER. THE EXISTENCE OF A BAN SYSTEM DOES NOT CONSTITUTE A GUARANTEE OF SAFETY OR A WARRANTY THAT THE PLATFORM IS FREE OF BAD ACTORS. 6. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, YOU EXPRESSLY UNDERSTAND AND AGREE THAT SOBER'S DEVELOPERS, THEIR SUBSIDIARIES AND AFFILIATES, AND THEIR LICENSORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE TO YOU UNDER ANY THEORY OF LIABILITY FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES THAT MAY BE INCURRED BY YOU, INCLUDING ANY LOSS OF DATA, WHETHER OR NOT SOBER'S DEVELOPERS OR THEIR REPRESENTATIVES HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF OR SHOULD HAVE BEEN AWARE OF THE POSSIBILITY OF ANY SUCH LOSSES ARISING. IF THE APPLICABLE LAW DOES NOT PERMIT THE TOTAL EXCLUSION OF LIABILITY AS SET FORTH ABOVE, YOU AGREE THAT SOBER'S DEVELOPERS' LIABILITY SHALL BE LIMITED TO THE MINIMUM EXTENT REQUIRED BY SUCH LAW. 7. Indemnification To the maximum extent permitted by law, you agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless Sober's developers, their affiliates and their respective directors, officers, employees and agents from and against any and all claims, actions, suits or proceedings, as well as any and all losses, liabilities, damages, costs and expenses (including reasonable attorneys fees) arising out of or accruing from (a) your use of Sober, or (b) any non-compliance by you with the License Agreement or any third-party agreement. 8. Changes & General Legal Terms * We may make changes to the License Agreement as new versions of Sober are distributed. When the changes are made, we will make the new version of the License Agreement available on the website where Sober is distributed. * The License Agreement constitutes the whole legal agreement between you and Sober's developers and governs your use of Sober (excluding any services which Sober's developers may provide to you under a separate written agreement), and completely replaces any prior agreements between you and Sober's developers in relation to Sober. * You agree that Sober's developers shall be beneficiaries to the License Agreement and that they are entitled to enforce and rely upon any provision of the License Agreement that confers a benefit (or rights in favor of) them. Other than this, no other person or company shall be third party beneficiaries to the License Agreement. * If any court of law, having the jurisdiction to decide on this matter, rules that any provision of the License Agreement is invalid, then that provision will be removed from the License Agreement without affecting the rest of the License Agreement. The remaining provisions of the License Agreement will continue to be valid and enforceable. * The License Agreement, and your relationship with Sober's developers under the License Agreement, shall be governed by the laws of Romania without regard to its conflict of laws provisions. You and Sober's developers agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located within the municipality of Bucharest, Romania to resolve any legal matter arising from the License Agreement. Notwithstanding this, you agree that Sober's developers shall still be allowed to apply for injunctive remedies (or an equivalent type of urgent legal relief) in any jurisdiction. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ = THIRD-PARTY LICENSES = ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ * We make use of various projects, some of which require their license to be preserved. Apache License Version 2.0, January 2004 http://www.apache.org/licenses/ TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR USE, REPRODUCTION, AND DISTRIBUTION 1. Definitions. "License" shall mean the terms and conditions for use, reproduction, and distribution as defined by Sections 1 through 9 of this document. "Licensor" shall mean the copyright owner or entity authorized by the copyright owner that is granting the License. "Legal Entity" shall mean the union of the acting entity and all other entities that control, are controlled by, or are under common control with that entity. For the purposes of this definition, "control" means (i) the power, direct or indirect, to cause the direction or management of such entity, whether by contract or otherwise, or (ii) ownership of fifty percent (50%) or more of the outstanding shares, or (iii) beneficial ownership of such entity. "You" (or "Your") shall mean an individual or Legal Entity exercising permissions granted by this License. "Source" form shall mean the preferred form for making modifications, including but not limited to software source code, documentation source, and configuration files. "Object" form shall mean any form resulting from mechanical transformation or translation of a Source form, including but not limited to compiled object code, generated documentation, and conversions to other media types. "Work" shall mean the work of authorship, whether in Source or Object form, made available under the License, as indicated by a copyright notice that is included in or attached to the work (an example is provided in the Appendix below). "Derivative Works" shall mean any work, whether in Source or Object form, that is based on (or derived from) the Work and for which the editorial revisions, annotations, elaborations, or other modifications represent, as a whole, an original work of authorship. For the purposes of this License, Derivative Works shall not include works that remain separable from, or merely link (or bind by name) to the interfaces of, the Work and Derivative Works thereof. "Contribution" shall mean any work of authorship, including the original version of the Work and any modifications or additions to that Work or Derivative Works thereof, that is intentionally submitted to Licensor for inclusion in the Work by the copyright owner or by an individual or Legal Entity authorized to submit on behalf of the copyright owner. For the purposes of this definition, "submitted" means any form of electronic, verbal, or written communication sent to the Licensor or its representatives, including but not limited to communication on electronic mailing lists, source code control systems, and issue tracking systems that are managed by, or on behalf of, the Licensor for the purpose of discussing and improving the Work, but excluding communication that is conspicuously marked or otherwise designated in writing by the copyright owner as "Not a Contribution." "Contributor" shall mean Licensor and any individual or Legal Entity on behalf of whom a Contribution has been received by Licensor and subsequently incorporated within the Work. 2. Grant of Copyright License. Subject to the terms and conditions of this License, each Contributor hereby grants to You a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, no-charge, royalty-free, irrevocable copyright license to reproduce, prepare Derivative Works of, publicly display, publicly perform, sublicense, and distribute the Work and such Derivative Works in Source or Object form. 3. Grant of Patent License. Subject to the terms and conditions of this License, each Contributor hereby grants to You a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, no-charge, royalty-free, irrevocable (except as stated in this section) patent license to make, have made, use, offer to sell, sell, import, and otherwise transfer the Work, where such license applies only to those patent claims licensable by such Contributor that are necessarily infringed by their Contribution(s) alone or by combination of their Contribution(s) with the Work to which such Contribution(s) was submitted. If You institute patent litigation against any entity (including a cross-claim or counterclaim in a lawsuit) alleging that the Work or a Contribution incorporated within the Work constitutes direct or contributory patent infringement, then any patent licenses granted to You under this License for that Work shall terminate as of the date such litigation is filed. 4. Redistribution. You may reproduce and distribute copies of the Work or Derivative Works thereof in any medium, with or without modifications, and in Source or Object form, provided that You meet the following conditions: (a) You must give any other recipients of the Work or Derivative Works a copy of this License; and (b) You must cause any modified files to carry prominent notices stating that You changed the files; and (c) You must retain, in the Source form of any Derivative Works that You distribute, all copyright, patent, trademark, and attribution notices from the Source form of the Work, excluding those notices that do not pertain to any part of the Derivative Works; and (d) If the Work includes a "NOTICE" text file as part of its distribution, then any Derivative Works that You distribute must include a readable copy of the attribution notices contained within such NOTICE file, excluding those notices that do not pertain to any part of the Derivative Works, in at least one of the following places: within a NOTICE text file distributed as part of the Derivative Works; within the Source form or documentation, if provided along with the Derivative Works; or, within a display generated by the Derivative Works, if and wherever such third-party notices normally appear. The contents of the NOTICE file are for informational purposes only and do not modify the License. You may add Your own attribution notices within Derivative Works that You distribute, alongside or as an addendum to the NOTICE text from the Work, provided that such additional attribution notices cannot be construed as modifying the License. You may add Your own copyright statement to Your modifications and may provide additional or different license terms and conditions for use, reproduction, or distribution of Your modifications, or for any such Derivative Works as a whole, provided Your use, reproduction, and distribution of the Work otherwise complies with the conditions stated in this License. 5. Submission of Contributions. Unless You explicitly state otherwise, any Contribution intentionally submitted for inclusion in the Work by You to the Licensor shall be under the terms and conditions of this License, without any additional terms or conditions. Notwithstanding the above, nothing herein shall supersede or modify the terms of any separate license agreement you may have executed with Licensor regarding such Contributions. 6. Trademarks. This License does not grant permission to use the trade names, trademarks, service marks, or product names of the Licensor, except as required for reasonable and customary use in describing the origin of the Work and reproducing the content of the NOTICE file. 7. Disclaimer of Warranty. Unless required by applicable law or agreed to in writing, Licensor provides the Work (and each Contributor provides its Contributions) on an "AS IS" BASIS, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OR CONDITIONS OF ANY KIND, either express or implied, including, without limitation, any warranties or conditions of TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, MERCHANTABILITY, or FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. You are solely responsible for determining the appropriateness of using or redistributing the Work and assume any risks associated with Your exercise of permissions under this License. 8. Limitation of Liability. In no event and under no legal theory, whether in tort (including negligence), contract, or otherwise, unless required by applicable law (such as deliberate and grossly negligent acts) or agreed to in writing, shall any Contributor be liable to You for damages, including any direct, indirect, special, incidental, or consequential damages of any character arising as a result of this License or out of the use or inability to use the Work (including but not limited to damages for loss of goodwill, work stoppage, computer failure or malfunction, or any and all other commercial damages or losses), even if such Contributor has been advised of the possibility of such damages. 9. Accepting Warranty or Additional Liability. While redistributing the Work or Derivative Works thereof, You may choose to offer, and charge a fee for, acceptance of support, warranty, indemnity, or other liability obligations and/or rights consistent with this License. However, in accepting such obligations, You may act only on Your own behalf and on Your sole responsibility, not on behalf of any other Contributor, and only if You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold each Contributor harmless for any liability incurred by, or claims asserted against, such Contributor by reason of your accepting any such warranty or additional liability. END OF TERMS AND CONDITIONS
